In a 2018 study published by USA Today titled America’s Drunkest States, Maine ranked eleventh. According to the study, 19.6% of Maine adults reported excessive drinking in the last month. Worse yet, around 25% of residents under age 21 reported the same. An eye-opening 39.8% of in-state automobile accident deaths involve alcohol.

It isn’t just The Pine Tree State that suffers from alcohol abuse. It’s an issue all across America. Fortunately, there’s plenty of free help out there for those in need. The website alcoholawareness.org sponsors a 24/7 hotline that offers free help to anyone suffering from alcohol abuse. Call 855-955-0771 to be connected to a specialist who will listen and help in any way possible. The site also offers direct links to helpful resources and support groups. Maine Recovery Hub

Sponsored by the Portland Recovery Community Center, the Hub is “an initiative that supports developing recovery community centers throughout Maine,” according to its website.
