Who we help
We treat adults across the full range of alcohol use disorder, from people whose drinking has started to affect health and work, to people with severe, long-term addiction and prior treatment that did not hold. Many of our calls come from family members trying to get help for someone they love. Whatever the situation, our admissions team will tell you plainly which level of care fits and what the next step is.
Our alcohol treatment programs
We provide every level of alcohol addiction treatment in one place, so care matches the severity of the addiction and steps down as a person stabilizes. Because the whole continuum runs under one program in Pompano Beach, there is no handoff to an outside facility between stages.
Medical detox
Treatment starts with medically supervised detox to manage alcohol withdrawal safely, with vital-sign monitoring around the clock. Detox usually runs 5 to 7 days. See our alcohol detox program.
Residential and inpatient treatment
A live-in program with 24/7 support and a structured daily schedule, offered in 30, 60, and 90 day lengths for moderate to severe addiction. See our residential alcohol treatment page.
Partial hospitalization (PHP)
About 6 hours of treatment a day, 5 days a week, while living at home or in sober housing. PHP is a step down from residential care for people who still need intensive daily support. See our partial hospitalization program page.
Intensive outpatient (IOP)
About 3 hours a day, 3 to 5 days a week, built around work, school, or family, for people with a stable home and a support system. See our intensive outpatient program page.
Outpatient treatment
One to two sessions a week, for milder dependence or as step-down support after a higher level of care, keeping people connected to treatment as they return to daily life across South Florida. See our outpatient alcohol treatment page.
How your treatment plan is personalized
The assessment is where a plan starts, and on the treatment side it also decides which level you enter, detox, residential, or an outpatient step. From there it sets your therapies, whether medication helps, and how you move down the continuum. Nothing about the plan is fixed, the team re-reads it at every step.
Therapies and medications we use
Across the continuum we use evidence-based therapies, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, and trauma-focused work, in individual, group, and family settings. When a clinician decides it fits, the three FDA-approved alcohol medications, naltrexone, acamprosate, and disulfiram, are used to cut cravings and support sobriety. The mix and intensity shift by level, which is what the level-of-care pages describe.
Dual diagnosis and co-occurring conditions
Depression, anxiety, PTSD, and bipolar disorder often sit underneath heavy drinking, and treating the drinking alone leaves the driver in place. Across every level of care we treat both together rather than in sequence, with a psychiatric assessment at intake and one team coordinating the mental health and addiction sides. Which level handles it depends on severity, and the assessment routes you accordingly. See our dual diagnosis treatment page.
What to expect and how admission works
Treatment length is set by need, not a fixed number, and most clients move through several levels of care as they progress. Getting started is straightforward. You call our admissions team, we verify your insurance for free and explain any out-of-pocket cost, and a clinician completes a short assessment to confirm the right level of care. For people traveling to Pompano Beach from elsewhere in Florida or out of state, we help coordinate the arrival, and intake can often happen the same day. Aftercare planning begins early, with a written relapse-prevention plan, referrals where needed, and a place in our alumni community.
Why choose AlcoholAwareness.org
We are a licensed Florida alcohol treatment provider with medical oversight, individualized care, and the full continuum on site, so there is no gap as a person steps down from one level to the next. Detox is medically supervised, dual diagnosis care is built in, and treatment is evidence-based. Our content is medically reviewed by Robert Gerchalk, who spent years in Florida mental health and substance abuse facilities and at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Insurance and admissions
Coverage depends on the level of care and your plan, and most major carriers, including Cigna, Aetna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, pay toward some or all of the continuum. Because we run detox through outpatient in one place, a single benefits check tells you what your plan supports across every level, not just one. We verify for free before you commit, with no obligation, and our admissions team explains what is covered, what any out of network gap looks like, and where you would start. Call (855) 955-0771 or ask us to run your coverage.

Alcohol treatment FAQ
What is the most effective treatment for alcohol addiction?
The most effective treatment matches the level of care to the severity of the drinking. For physical dependence it starts with medical detox, then moves through residential or outpatient care with therapy and, when it fits, one of the FDA-approved alcohol medications. Treating any co-occurring mental health condition at the same time is what makes it hold.
What are the levels of alcohol treatment?
From most to least intensive: medical detox, residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and standard outpatient. Most people move down through several levels as they stabilize, and all of them run at our Pompano Beach location.
How do I know which level of alcohol treatment I need?
A short medical and psychiatric assessment decides it. It weighs how severe the drinking is, whether you have withdrawal symptoms when you stop, whether a mental health condition is present, and how stable home life is. Our admissions team tells you the level plainly rather than pushing everyone into the same program.
What medications are used to treat alcohol addiction?
Three medications are FDA-approved for alcohol use disorder: naltrexone, acamprosate, and disulfiram. They reduce cravings and support sobriety, and a clinician decides whether one fits your case and manages it through treatment.
Can you treat alcohol addiction and depression together?
Yes. Depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other conditions are treated alongside the drinking under one team, with a psychiatric assessment at intake and medication managed on site. Treating only the drinking leaves the cause in place.
How much does alcohol treatment cost?
Cost depends on the level of care and your plan. Most major carriers, including Cigna, Aetna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, pay toward treatment across the continuum, and because every level runs in one place a single free benefits check tells you what your plan covers before you commit.
