Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) in Hollywood

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) in Hollywood

Full-day drug and alcohol treatment, home at night

Client receiving supportive care inside a calm, residential-style wellness center.

Which PHP program fits Hollywood residents who need daily care?

Our licensed PHP in Pompano Beach, about 20 miles up I-95, treats Hollywood residents for drug and alcohol use for about 6 hours every weekday.

You spend your nights at home or in a certified sober home, and you come back the next morning to the same group and the same therapist.

One call covers your benefits, and admissions can seat you in your first PHP group that same week.

Is a partial hospitalization program right for you?

Yes, if you need treatment every weekday but can sleep somewhere safe and sober, or if a few hours a week has not kept you sober.

The signs that point to PHP:

  • You are finishing a live-in stay and a lighter schedule feels too thin
  • You have a sober bed at night but need a full program by day
  • Intensive outpatient has slipped and you need more hours, not fewer
  • Depression, anxiety or trauma needs near-daily psychiatric contact while you work on the addiction

If you still need detox, or nights at home put you near alcohol or drugs, a live-in stay comes first. Admissions tells you straight which level fits.

How soon can PHP start for Hollywood residents?

The same week you phone us. Stepping down from a live-in stay? You start the next morning.

The phone intake is short: what you use, past treatment, where you sleep and how you plan to reach us each day. Your assessment checks PHP against the ASAM criteria and then puts your first day on the calendar. Need detox before PHP? Admissions says so on the call, and with a bed open you come in that day. Coming out of the adult psychiatric unit at Memorial Regional? Phone us before the hospital discharges you, and your first PHP day lands that same week.

What is a PHP day like?

About 6 hours. You open with a check-in, move through a core therapy group, a session with your therapist, a specialty group and a medication review, and leave by late afternoon.

The core group tackles relapse prevention, coping skills or what drove your use. One-to-one therapy runs through the week too, next to groups that cover trauma, family life and co-occurring conditions. Medication reviews happen inside the program day, so you never chase a separate appointment.

Evenings belong to you. The ArtsPark at Young Circle gives you 10 acres and an amphitheater lawn in the middle of downtown, and the Broadwalk falls under Chapter 99, the city rule that bans drinking in the public beach areas. Either one gives you a sober hour before bed.

How do you get to PHP from Hollywood by Tri-Rail?

Board at Hollywood station or Sheridan Street station, ride north to Pompano Beach station, then cover the last 5 miles to us by car.

Hollywood station, at 3001 Hollywood Boulevard on the west side of I-95, has free parking for commuters. From there the train calls at Sheridan Street, the Fort Lauderdale Airport station, Fort Lauderdale and Cypress Creek before Pompano Beach. Sheridan Street station sits at 2900 Sheridan Street, so if you live in north Hollywood it saves you the trip down to Hollywood Boulevard. Admissions plans the last leg with you before your first day.

By car, the trip runs about 20 miles and about 30 minutes outside rush hour, Hollywood Boulevard to I-95 and up to Atlantic Boulevard. Five round trips a week add up, so we set your start time around the morning traffic.

Can you live in a sober home during PHP?

Yes. When home is not ready for you, we find you a bed in a certified sober home a short drive from the program, for as long as PHP lasts.

As a licensed provider, we refer only to certified recovery residences under Florida law, and each one has cleared Florida’s bar for safety and house rules. You get the structure of shared sober living each night and a full program each day, at a lower cost than a live-in stay.

A few weeks 20 miles from your usual places gives new habits room to set before you test them at home. When you are ready, you move back to Hollywood and carry on in intensive outpatient, and your case manager times the move so it does not land in the same week as your IOP start.

PHP or residential rehab: which fits you?

Residential fits when you need care through the night and distance from home. PHP fits when your days need structure but your nights are safe.

The therapy hours look close: full days of groups, individual sessions and medication review. What changes is where you sleep. You go from a live-in stay to PHP and on to IOP, and the team never changes.

Our main partial hospitalization program page lays the levels side by side.

Which therapies and medications come with PHP?

Trauma work, cognitive behavioral therapy, family sessions and dialectical behavior therapy, plus naltrexone, acamprosate, disulfiram or buprenorphine when your prescriber judges one useful.

Near-daily psychiatric contact makes PHP the place to settle a mental health condition. If you arrive after a stay in the 51-bed adult unit at Memorial Regional Hospital, your PHP team picks up the medication plan the hospital started. MedlinePlus, the National Library of Medicine guide, lists counseling and medication side by side in addiction care.

Licensed PHP Clinicians

A licensed therapist, a prescriber and psychiatric staff run your program day.

PHP Into IOP Without a Restart

When you step down, the same team carries you into intensive outpatient.

Who treats you in the PHP program?

Your licensed therapist, prescriber, psychiatric staff, nursing team and case manager, working from a single plan.

Your therapist sees you one to one and runs groups. Your prescriber and psychiatric staff check medication and mood during the program day. Nurses watch how you are coping. If you come to us from a hospital stay, your team asks for the hospital’s discharge notes, with your permission, before your first day. Your case manager takes on the rest: talking to your employer, filing leave forms, arranging sober housing and fixing your IOP step-down date.

How long does PHP last?

Your intake assessment picks a starting length, and your team revisits it each week.

Each week your team looks at how you are doing and moves your step-down date earlier or later. Coverage for PHP comes one week at a time, and we request more weeks whenever you need them.

What will PHP cost you with a Broward plan?

With insurance, your cost is the rest of your deductible plus coinsurance, and you hear the dollar figure before day one.

Most Broward plans, Florida Blue, Aetna and Cigna among them, pay for an approved block of PHP weeks and renew it as you progress. Insurers review PHP closely because it is the highest outpatient level.

Admissions checks your coverage at no charge. If we sit out of network, you hear the gap in dollars. No insurance? The self-pay rate comes during that same call. We file each weekly authorization, so you never chase the insurer yourself.

Does Medicare cover partial hospitalization?

On your first call, admissions looks up your Medicare plan and explains what it pays for and what other options you have.

Coverage hinges on the Medicare plan you hold and the level of care you need, which is why a quick benefits check beats guessing. Admissions also checks any supplemental or Medicare Advantage plan you carry. If Medicare falls short, admissions walks you through other ways to cover it.

What happens after PHP ends?

IOP comes next, then standard outpatient, all with the team you already know, and your alumni place stays yours.

In your final PHP week, your therapist chooses a day or evening IOP track that fits your hours in Hollywood. Your prescriber settles which medication continues, and you carry a written relapse-prevention plan out the door. After that, your alumni coordinator stays in touch, with weeknight groups you reach after work and a place to bring the next hard week.
