FMLA Leave for Alcohol Rehab in Pompano Beach, Florida

Alcohol use disorder qualifies as a serious health condition under the Family and Medical Leave Act, so treatment is protected leave when a clinician certifies it.

Your employer is told you need medical leave. They are not told what for. We complete the certification and admissions works around your leave dates.

Who can take FMLA leave for alcohol rehab?

Anyone who has worked twelve months for an employer with fifty or more staff, and has put in 1,250 hours in the last year.

That covers you if you are full time at a company of any size. It does not cover a business below the threshold, a first-year employee, or most part-time work.

The other condition is the one people miss: leave has to be for treatment, not for drinking. The Department of Labor protects time away to receive care. It does not protect absence caused by alcohol, which is why arranging the admission before the absences stack up matters.

Does FMLA cover alcohol rehab?

Yes, when a licensed provider certifies the treatment as medically necessary.

That certification is a form, and we complete it. It names the condition as a serious health condition requiring treatment, gives the dates, and goes to your employer’s HR or leave administrator rather than your manager.

Inpatient care and the follow-up outpatient work are both covered. So is the time needed for medical detox before the program starts.

What does your employer get told about your treatment?

That you need medical leave, the dates, and that a licensed clinician certified it. Not the diagnosis.

The certification form does not require you to name alcohol. It requires a licensed clinician to confirm a serious health condition and the treatment schedule, and admissions completes it once your level of care is assessed.

Your treatment records carry a second federal layer on top of HIPAA under 42 CFR Part 2, written specifically for addiction treatment. We cannot confirm you are in treatment to an employer who calls, with or without a certification on file.

Ask admissions to walk through exactly what leaves our office before you admit. It takes two minutes on the call and it is the question people most often wish they had asked first.

How do you start FMLA leave for treatment?

Call admissions first, get the assessment and the dates, then file with your employer.

Doing it in that order matters. HR needs a start date and a duration, and those come out of a clinical assessment rather than a guess. The assessment also settles which level of care you need, which sets the length.

Admissions verifies your insurance on the same call, so you go to HR knowing the treatment is covered as well as protected.

What if FMLA does not cover your treatment?

Several other routes exist, and admissions works through them with you on the first call.

Short-term disability covers a portion of your salary during inpatient treatment under many employer policies. Accrued paid time off can bridge a shorter stay. Some employers run an employee assistance program that arranges leave and keeps it away from your manager entirely.

If none of those apply, treatment still does. Intensive outpatient in an evening track and virtual treatment are both built for people who cannot be away at all.

Can you be fired for going to alcohol rehab?

Not for taking protected leave to receive treatment. You can be held to the same performance and conduct standards as anyone else.

That distinction is the whole thing. Seeking treatment is protected. Drinking at work, or the attendance record that built up before you sought help, is not retroactively protected by going to rehab afterward.

This is the argument for going sooner. Protection attaches to treatment, so the earlier you start it, the less there is behind you.

Call before the next absence rather than after it. Admissions can start the assessment the same day, verifies your insurance on that call, and can hold a bed while the certification is completed.

Does short-term disability cover alcohol treatment?

Under many employer policies, yes, and it pays a share of your salary while FMLA protects the job.

The two run together rather than instead of each other. FMLA holds your position. Short-term disability replaces part of the income.

Policies vary on substance use, and some carry a waiting period. Have your policy number ready on the first call and admissions checks it alongside your health insurance.

What does alcohol treatment cost while you are on leave?

Whatever your plan does not cover, and admissions gives you that figure before you file anything with HR.

Four things set it: the level of care you are admitted to, how long you stay, whether we are in network for your policy, and how much of your deductible is already spent this year.

Your group coverage continues during FMLA leave, so the benefit paying for treatment is the same one you had at work. We verify it, put the number in writing, and you go to HR knowing both the protection and the cost.

If your employer runs an assistance program, say so. Some cover the copay entirely, and admissions checks that alongside the insurance.

How long can you be away for alcohol treatment?

Up to twelve weeks of protected leave in a twelve-month period, and most treatment plans use far less than that.

Thirty days at residential level is the common shape for a first admission. Sixty or ninety when you have relapsed before or have a second condition to treat. Your stay is set by clinical assessment against the ASAM criteria and reviewed weekly, which is also what your insurer authorizes against.

Leave does not have to be taken in one block. Stepping down from residential into PHP and then into outpatient often means returning to work part-way through treatment.

What treatment fits around a job you cannot leave?

An evening intensive outpatient track, or a program built around keeping your work accessible.

Our executive alcohol rehab keeps phone and laptop access at set hours and schedules around what you cannot move. Our virtual alcohol treatment runs the same curriculum by video.

Relapse prevention medication fits either. Naltrexone cuts cravings and acamprosate steadies the months afterward, both prescribed and monitored by our own licensed clinical team. See medication-assisted treatment.

All three are billed under the same outpatient benefit, so admissions verifies one policy and covers whichever track you are admitted to.

What happens to your insurance during leave?

It continues. Your employer has to maintain your group health coverage on the same terms while you are on FMLA leave.

You keep paying your share of the premium, and the arrangement for that is worth settling with HR before you go rather than discovering it in week three.

This matters because your coverage is what pays for the treatment you are taking leave for. Admissions verifies the benefit before you file anything.

How do you start treatment without losing your job?

Call +1-855-955-0771. Get the assessment and the dates first, then file with HR.

Tell admissions you need to keep working or need protected leave. It changes which level of care we recommend and how the schedule is built.

Discharge planning includes your return to work: a step-down schedule, ongoing appointments that fit your hours, and an alumni contact after you finish.

What else do people ask about rehab leave?

Does FMLA cover outpatient alcohol treatment?

Yes, including intermittent leave for appointments, when a clinician certifies the schedule. It does not have to be a continuous block away from work.

Can your employer deny FMLA leave for rehab?

Not if you are eligible and the certification is complete. They can request a second medical opinion at their own cost.

Will taking rehab leave show on a background check?

No. It is a medical leave and a medical record, not a criminal one, and a standard employment background check does not reach it.

Do you have to tell your manager about treatment?

No. The certification goes to HR or the leave administrator. Your manager is told you are on approved medical leave.

Can you take FMLA leave for a partner’s alcohol treatment?

Yes, to care for a spouse, child or parent receiving treatment for a serious health condition. Our intervention team helps with the timing.
