Virtual alcohol treatment runs the same licensed intensive outpatient program by video, with the same clinical team and the same insurance benefit.
Three sessions a week, scheduled around your hours. Medication is prescribed and monitored alongside it. Admissions verifies your coverage on the call.

Who is virtual alcohol treatment for?
Anyone who cannot get to a building three times a week, and does not need to be admitted anywhere.
It suits you if you live too far to attend in person, if you cannot leave somebody at home, if your work hours make a fixed daytime program impossible, or if privacy is the thing stopping you from starting.
It also suits the step down. Finishing residential treatment and moving straight into video sessions keeps the clinical work going when the drive would have ended it.
It is not for everyone. If you have physical symptoms when you stop drinking, you need medical detox first, and that has to happen in person with nursing staff present. If home is where the drinking happens, treating you at home is the wrong plan and residential care is the right one.
What does virtual alcohol treatment include?
The full intensive outpatient curriculum, delivered live rather than recorded.
- Group therapy sessions, three times a week
- Individual sessions with your own therapist
- A clinical assessment at intake, scored against the ASAM criteria
- Medication management with a licensed prescriber
- A written relapse prevention plan
- Family sessions, which work better on video than you would expect
Nothing here is a self-guided course or an app. It is the same program our intensive outpatient patients attend, with the same clinicians, and it is billed under the same outpatient benefit. Admissions verifies that before your first session.
Does insurance cover online alcohol treatment?
Yes, on the same terms as in-person care under most plans, and we verify it before your first session.
Federal parity law requires most health plans to cover substance use treatment on the same terms as physical health care, and telehealth delivery sits inside that benefit for the large majority of policies.
What varies is your copay per session, whether the plan requires prior authorization for an outpatient program, and whether we are in network. All three are answered on the first call, in writing.
Where we are out of network we say so, and we tell you what a single case agreement would involve.
How do you join a virtual alcohol program?
An intake assessment by video, then your first group within days.
A clinician takes your drinking history and your medical history and scores the assessment. That produces a level of care recommendation, and it is the same framework your insurer uses when it authorizes the program.
If the assessment says you need more than virtual care, we say so on that call rather than admitting you to something that will not hold.
Your insurance is verified during the same call, so you know your copay and whether prior authorization is needed before you agree to anything.
Can you get medication through virtual treatment?
Yes. Naltrexone, acamprosate and disulfiram are all prescribed and monitored as part of the program.
Your prescriber reviews you at set intervals, liver function is checked before and during, and the prescription is adjusted against how you are doing rather than left running.
The monthly Vivitrol injection is the one exception, because it has to be given in person. If that is the right medication for you, admissions arranges it alongside the video sessions.
Our medication-assisted treatment page covers who each option suits.
Prescriptions are covered under your pharmacy benefit rather than the program benefit, and admissions checks both on the first call so there is no surprise copay at the pharmacy.
What do you need to attend virtual treatment?
A phone or laptop, a private hour, and a reliable connection.
Privacy is the practical problem, not the technology. A car in a parking lot counts and plenty of people use one. Headphones matter more than a camera.
Sessions are live and attendance is taken, the same as any outpatient program. Your insurer authorizes against attendance, so missed sessions affect coverage as well as progress.
Admissions confirms what your plan requires before you start, so nobody discovers an authorization problem in week three.
What does virtual alcohol treatment cost?
Your copay per session, and admissions gives you that figure before your first group.
Virtual care is billed as outpatient treatment, so what you owe depends on your deductible, your copay and whether we are in network for your plan. It is usually the least expensive level of care we run, because there is no bed.
We verify your benefit on the first call and put the number in writing. If your plan requires prior authorization for an outpatient program, we submit it.
If you have no insurance, say so at the start. There are self-pay rates per session and admissions gives you both figures before you commit to anything.
When is virtual alcohol treatment not enough?
When you need supervision, not scheduling.
Physical withdrawal needs detox with nursing staff on site. An unstable living situation needs residential treatment. Daily clinical hours need partial hospitalization.
An honest assessment at intake is what tells you which of those applies. Starting in the wrong level of care is the most common reason a first attempt at treatment does not hold.
Admissions tells you on the first call which level your insurer will authorize, so you are not admitted to something that gets denied in week two.
How is virtual treatment scheduled around work?
Evening groups, and a schedule set around your hours rather than ours.
Tell admissions what you cannot move. The program is built around it, and that is the entire reason people choose video over a daytime program they would have to leave a job for.
If you need protected time for appointments, taking leave for alcohol rehab covers how intermittent FMLA leave works for outpatient schedules.
What happens after virtual alcohol treatment ends?
A step down to weekly sessions, with discharge planning that starts in your first weeks.
Your case manager arranges ongoing prescriptions, books your step-down appointments and puts the relapse prevention plan in writing before you finish. The alumni contact continues afterward.
Outpatient alcohol treatment is the usual next step, and it also runs by video.
How do you start virtual alcohol treatment?
Call +1-855-955-0771. We verify your insurance and book the intake assessment on that call.
Have your insurance card and your current medications to hand. Say what your week looks like, because the schedule is built around it.
If you are calling about somebody else, say so at the start. Our intervention team works with the family first.
What else do people ask about virtual alcohol treatment?
Is online alcohol rehab as effective as in person?
For outpatient-level care the clinical content is identical, and the thing that decides outcomes is attendance. Video removes the commute, which is the single most common reason attendance fails.
Can you do virtual alcohol treatment in another state?
Only where we hold a license to treat. Tell admissions where you live on the first call, because it is the first thing checked.
Does virtual alcohol treatment show on your record?
It is a medical record, protected under HIPAA and under the addiction-specific rule on top of it. A standard employment background check does not reach it.
How long does a virtual alcohol program last?
Eight to twelve weeks of three sessions a week, then a step down to weekly. Your assessment sets the starting point and reviews adjust it.
Can you get a naltrexone prescription online?
Yes, after an assessment and liver function bloods. The prescription is monitored with scheduled reviews rather than issued and left.
